Homemade Dry Skin Lotion
Making your own dry-skin lotion provides substantial benefits to purchasing over-the-counter lotions. Commercial lotions can contain harsh chemical-based thickening agents, emulsifiers and emollients. Sometimes these ingredients produce allergic reactions, irritation or redness. In addition, some manufacturers test ingredients on animals or use animal-derived products such as collagen or lard-based glycerin. When you make your own dry-skin lotion, you can ensure it contains all-natural ingredients and is cruelty-free. You can make a rich lotion suitable for all skin types -- but especially effective on dry skin -- with readily available ingredients.
Melt the cocoa butter in the top of a double boiler. Remove from the burner and pour the melted cocoa butter into a jar.
Prick the vitamin E capsules with a sewing needle and squeeze the liquid into the cocoa butter.
Stir in the remaining ingredients, except for the essential oils.
Cool the mixture for 5 to 10 minutes in the refrigerator. Add the essential oils and stir well.
Store sealed in the refrigerator.
