Overview

If you suffer from extremely dry skin, you have other alternatives besides expensive over-the-counter or prescription creams and lotions to soothe and soften your skin. Numerous folk remedies for extremely dry facial and body skin can help to alleviate burning, irritated skin with common household ingredients you may already have on hand.

Milk Bath

Step 1

Fill your bathtub with water.

Step 2

Pour 8 oz. fresh almond milk, cow's milk or goat milk into the bath water.

Step 3

Add 1/2 tsp. of organic almond oil to the bath water.

Step 4

Lie in the bath water for 15 to 20 minutes, dry off and dress as usual.

Step 5

Repeat the almond cream bath two to three times per week, or until symptoms improve.

Natural Clay Paste

Step 1

Mix 1 pound bentonite, or green clay, available from online herbal suppliers, with enough water to make a glue-like paste.

Step 2

Rub the natural clay paste over your body and let dry for 30 to 45 minutes.

Step 3

Rinse off the paste with a hose in the back yard or in your bathtub. Do not rinse off natural clay in your house if you have a septic system, as clay can clog the system.

Smoothing Face and Body Lotion

Step 1

Mix one beaten egg with 1/2 tsp. jojoba or olive oil in a mixing bowl.

Step 2

Add three to five drops of rose or orange flower water and 1/8 tsp. lime juice to mixture and stir thoroughly.

Step 3

Add 1/2 tsp. honey to mixture and stir until well-blended.

Step 4

Apply mixture to affected area and let sit for 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 5

Rinse off smoothing face and body lotion with lukewarm water.

Fruit and Yogurt Cream

Step 1

Mix the fruit of one mashed avocado with one mashed banana.

Step 2

Add 6 to 8 oz. unflavored yogurt to mixture and stir thoroughly.

Step 3

Apply fruit and yogurt cream to affected areas and let sit for 20 to 30 minutes.

Step 4

Rinse off cream with lukewarm water.

Refreshing Facial Sauna

Step 1

Bring 4 cups of water to a boil.

Step 2

Add 2 tbsp. each fresh or dried lavender and peppermint to boiling water and remove pot from fire.

Step 3

Wrap a towel around your hair and stand over the pot for 10 to 15 minutes.

Step 4

Pat face dry with a clean washcloth.
