Overview

Blackheads are a types of acne that are characterized by the pores becoming clogged with excess oils, sebum and bacteria which turns brown due to oxidation. Over-the-counter acne products are sometimes ineffective at removing blackheads, and contain strong chemicals that can cause the skin to become irritated. Luckily, blackheads can be removed by applying natural treatments that will open the pores to drain out impurities, remove dead skin cells to prevent blockages, and increase skin cell turnover to keep the pores clear.

Step 1

Apply an oil steam to open the pores and release impurities. Pour 1 tbsp. of castor oil into your hand, and spread the oil onto your face. Use your fingers to massage the oil into your skin deeply with circular motions. After three to four minutes, fill a bowl with boiling water, and lean 12 to 18 inches over the bowl. Drape a towel over your head, which will force the steam to cover the face. After five to seven minutes, lift the head and wipe off the oil with a wet washcloth. Repeat twice per day.

Step 2

Apply a baking soda scrub to remove dead skin that could block the pores. Pour 1 tbsp. of baking soda into your palm, and drizzle 1 tsp. of water into it. Mix the two substances well with your finger, and spread it onto the skin. Massage the baking soda mixture into the skin for two minutes using small, circular finger movements. Rinse off the skin with warm water. Repeat twice per day after applying an oil steam.

Step 3

Apply a lemon juice compress, which increases the rate at which skin cell are sloughed off. Soak five cotton pads in lemon juice, and place them onto the skin, focusing on the areas that are the most effected by blackheads. Allow the pad to remain the skin for at least 15 minutes, then remove them and let the skin dry naturally. Repeat twice per day after applying the baking soda scrub.
