Pore size is largely hereditary; if your mother or grandmother had large pores, it's likely that you do too. While you can't alter the size of your pores permanently, you can take steps to reduce their appearance. Cosmetic procedures can be effective but costly. If you don't have the funds, or you're just looking for a gentler, more natural way to shrink your pores, look no farther than your kitchen.

Egg Whites

Egg whites have toning and tightening properties. Whip the whites of one or two eggs until fluffy and apply to your face as a mask. Let the whites sit on your skin for 15 minutes, until dry. Rinse with cool water.

Clay

Clay is a natural toner and skin tightener that also draws impurities from the skin and increases circulation at its surface. You can purchase clay at any health food store. Add enough water to it to make a paste and spread it over your face. Allow it to dry for 20 to 30 minutes and then rinse it off with cool water. You can also add other skin-friendly ingredients to the clay, such as a few drops of tea tree oil---an antiseptic---or olive oil for added moisture.

Honey

Honey tightens pores and reduces oiliness. It is also packed with antioxidants that deliver nutrients to skin. Spread a thin layer of honey over your face and allow it to sit for 20 to 30 minutes. Rinse it off with warm water and finish by splashing your face with cool water.

Citrus Fruits

The natural sugars in citrus fruits help exfoliate the skin, reducing pore size, and vitamin C delivers necessary antioxidants. Add the juice of lemons, oranges or grapefruits to plain yogurt and apply as a mask to your face. Allow the mixture to sit for 20 to 30 minutes and then rinse with cool water.

Sugar

Sugar contains glycolic acid, the same thing many expensive facial treatments use to exfoliate the skin's surface to reduce the size of pores and remove impurities from the skin. The grain of sugar also works well as a scrub to increase circulation at the skin's surface. Mix a small amount of sugar with honey and gently scrub the skin in a circular motion. Allow the mixture to sit on your face for 20 to 30 minutes. Rinse off with cool water.
