Acne scars can often be more devastating to the self-esteem than acne itself. People with acne scars can feel like there’s no hope of getting rid of them without expensive treatments. There are some home tips, however, for reducing and eliminating acne scars. None of these treatments have been clinically proven to be effective, however, so use caution when trying them.

Sandalwood and Rosewater

According to Natural-HomeRemedies.com, the best home remedy for acne scars is a mixture of sandalwood and rosewater. Mix the two until you have a thick paste. Apply the paste to the acne scars and surrounding skin before you go to sleep. You can even apply the paste as a mask to your whole face. Leave the paste on overnight, and rinse it off in the morning. You should notice smoother skin immediately, and if you apply the paste nightly you should see a gradual reduction in acne scars, although, again, this has not been clinically proven.

Mask

Create a mask using 1 tbsp. each of sour cream (fat free for oily skin), yogurt and ground oatmeal. Mix the ingredients together, and, if you like, add a few drops of lemon juice to brighten your skin tone. Apply the mixture over your face and acne-scarred skin and leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse.

Moisturizers

Aloe vera and vitamin E are well known ingredients in scar treatments. They can be used individually or together to moisturize the scar tissue and help the skin repair and renew itself. Olive oil is another moisturizer that has been used to treat acne scars. Only the smallest amount is needed, and the American Chronicle recommends only a pea size to cover the face and neck.

Water

Drinking a sufficient amount of water each day will help the skin to be at its best. Water hydrates the skin keeping the skin cells plump, healthy and in better shape to heal themselves. Water is also essential to washing toxins away from the skin and out of the body to prevent more acne outbreaks.

Fruits and Vegetables

Many fruits and vegetables are bountiful in antioxidants that provide the skin the nutrients needed to heal itself. Tomatoes are high in vitamin A, an antioxidant that strengthens the protective tissues and provides the skin what it needs to make tissue repairs. Pineapples are high in vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that helps boost the immune system and is essential for tissue growth. Cucumbers have great moisturizing properties. Whichever you choose, chop or puree the fruit and apply to the acne scars for 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse.
