According to Medicine Net, the causes of acne include overproductive oil glands, excess bacteria buildup and blocked pores. While acne is common in different parts of life, it can be still be embarrassing and uncomfortable. Fortunately, there are home remedies that can help you get rid of acne. Supporters of these treatments claim that they work, but these claims have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration, so you should consult with your doctor before starting any new treatment.

Garlic, Rosemary Essential Oil, Grapefruit Essential Oil and Jojoba Oil

According to Ann Worwood, author of "The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy,” a mixture made of garlic, rosemary essential oil, grapefruit essential oil and jojoba oil can be applied to the skin to help fight acne. To use this mixture on the skin, combine two whole garlic cloves, 1/4 tsp. rosemary essential oil, 1/4 tsp. grapefruit essential oil and 4 tsp. jojoba oil in a blender or food processor. Process the mixture on high speed until it is moderately thin. Apply a thick layer of the mixture to the affected area and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse your skin with cool water and wash with a gentle cleanser to remove the mixture and use your regular moisturizer if you use one. This treatment can be repeated daily if it does not irritate your skin.

Garlic and Apple Cider Vinegar

According to Paul C. Bragg, author of "Apple Cider Vinegar: Miracle Health System,” a mixture of garlic and apple cider vinegar can be applied to the skin as a topical treatment for acne. To use garlic and apple cider vinegar on the skin, combine one clove of garlic with 1 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar in a mortar and pestle and grind until it forms a paste with an even consistency. Apply a thick layer of the mixture to the skin and leave it on for 12 to 15 minutes before rinsing with cool water and washing with a gentle cleanser. This treatment can be repeated daily as long as no irritation occurs. Note that Bragg recommends using only natural apple cider vinegar with at least 5 percent acidity for maximum benefit.

Garlic, Green Tea and Parsley

According to Vasant Lad, author of "The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies,” garlic, green tea and parsley can be used together as a topical treatment for acne. To use this mixture, combine two cloves of garlic with 4 oz. of green tea and 2 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley in a blender or food processor and puree for 15 to 20 seconds on high speed. Transfer the mixture to a small container and apply a thin layer to the affected area. Leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing with cool water and washing with a gentle cleanser and applying your regular moisturizer. This treatment can be used daily as long as it does not irritate your skin, and unused portions of the mixture can be kept in the refrigerator for 24 hours if needed.
