Home Remedies for Old Acne Spots

Acne can ravage us as teenagers and leave us literally scarred into adulthood. Although scar-treatment products are available over the counter and by prescription, home remedies are also available. As with any other herbal treatments, the AmericanChronicle website reminds us that consistency is important for results. Scars take their time to form, and even nonherbal remedies take time to undo that work. Keep the skin healthy by drinking lots of water through the process to aid in healing.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice lightens acne spots and also works on sun and age spots. Apply lemon juice to the spots with a cotton ball or swab twice a day. The acne spots should begin to fade after two months of application.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Onion Juice

Apple cider is effective in the treatment of acne, but when mixed with the juice of an onion it becomes a great treatment for acne spots. Mix equal parts apple cider vinegar and onion juice. Apply to the acne spots and leave on for a minimum of 30 minutes, then rinse. Apply once a day. You should see results within six weeks.

Aloe Vera & Vitamin E

Many skin-care products contain aloe vera and vitamin E, both of which heal and soften the skin. The AcneTreatmentSpecialist website reports that vitamin E penetrates the skin to heal from beneath the scar. Aloe and vitamin E aid cell regeneration. Combine aloe vera with vitamin E oil and gently apply. Leave on for up to 30 minutes before rinsing with warm water.

Sandalwood and Rose Water

The Natural-HomeRemedies website recommends a mixture of sandalwood and rose water for treating old acne spots. Mix rose water into a little sandalwood to make a paste. Apply the diluted paste on the scar just before you go to bed. Rinse off the paste in the morning.

Olive Oil

Olive oil is another skin-softening home remedy that has been used for scars for a very long time. Dab the scarred area with a minimal amount of olive oil. The oil will penetrate the skin to revive elasticity and fade the spots. Leave the oil on your skin for at least 15 minutes before washing off with a mild cleanser.
