According to Medical News today, blackheads are a type of acne called open comedones, generally represented as small bumps in the skin that have a yellow or black color. Hormonal changes that result in overproductive oil glands are the most common cause of blackheads, though environmental factors like exposure to dirt and overuse of makeup are also common factors. However, there are a few home remedies that can help to get rid of blackheads. Though these remedies are natural, they have not been evaluated by the FDA for effectiveness, so you should consult your doctor or dermatologist before changing your skin-care regimen.

Put a small amount on a clean cotton ball or pad and gently wipe the mixture over the affected area. Leave the mixture on for 30 minutes before rinsing the skin with cool water. Pat the skin dry with a clean towel.
