Home Remedies for Facial Skin Care

Simple at-home skin care treatments are an alternative option to chemically-based beauty products that take a big bite out of your budget. Forget the artificial ingredients and look no further than your own kitchen or pantry for wholesome, natural treatments that will leave any skin type healthy and glowing.

Oily Skin

A fruit-based facial mask will sooth and nourish oily skin. Combine 2 tbsp. honey, 1 tbsp. lemon or lime juice, 2 egg whites and 1 cup fresh, mashed strawberries. Add 4 drops of jojoba oil, sweet almond oil or eucalyptus oil. Smooth the facial onto clean skin. Leave it for 10 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water. Tone oily skin with cool green tea or tomato juice.

Dry Skin

Cleanse dry skin with aloe vera. Place 1 oz. aloe vera gel, 1 oz. rosewater and 1/5 cup light olive oil in a blender. Stir in 2 drops grapefruit seed extract and 4 drops rose essential oil. Blend, then place the cleanser in a small bottle. Shake before using.

Moisturize dry skin with an avocado facial. Place 1 tbsp. mashed, ripe avocado in a bowl, then stir in 3 drops apple cider vinegar and 1 tsp. honey. Add a few drops of sesame oil or olive oil until the mixture is smooth and spreadable.

Smooth the mixture over your face. Leave it for 10 minutes, then rinse. Tone your dry skin with a mixture of 1/2 rose water and 1/2 mineral water.

Sensitive Skin

Clean sensitive skin with yogurt and oatmeal. Grind a small amount of oats in a blender, then stir in enough full-fat yogurt or cream to make a paste.

Calm sensitive skin with a sage facial. Pour 1/2 cup boiling water over 1 tbsp. fresh sage leaves. Allow the mixture to cool, then pour the liquid through a strainer. Stir 2 tbsp. honey, 1 egg white and 3 tbsp. oatmeal into the sage water. Mix well, then spread the mixture onto clean skin. Allow the facial to remain for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse.
Tone sensitive skin with rose water or geranium water.

Combination Skin

Cleanse and moisturize combination skin with plain yogurt. Smooth the yogurt over problem areas such as your forehead, nose and chin. A simple honey toner will sooth combination skin. Smooth honey over your skin, then rinse with warm water after 20 minutes.

Hydrate combination skin with a honey and cucumber toner. Peel and dice a cucumber, then place the cucumber pieces in a blender. Blend in 2 tsp. honey. Strain the mixture, then smooth the toner over your skin with a cotton ball.
