Home remedies may improve some cases of mild acne. Mild cases of acne often consists mostly of non-inflammatory acne such as blackheads and whiteheads, which are the result of clogged pores. If you suffer from congested pores and mild acne, these remedies may provide some relief. If you are already being treated for acne, consult with your dermatologist before adding any home treatments as these remedies are not intended to replace medical treatments.

Lemon Juice

The citric acid in lemon juice makes it an effective treatment for acne-prone skin and large pores. This powerful antioxidant reduces skin bacteria and oil while leaving skin healthy and radiant. Apply a bit of fresh lemon juice behind your ear to test for skin sensitivity prior to using it over your entire face. Lemon juice causes a tingling or stinging sensation that some people find too strong. Water can be used to dilute it if necessary. Apply the straight or diluted lemon juice to your entire face using a cotton ball. Lemon juice can be left on overnight for maximum effect or rinsed after about 10 minutes if necessary.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar balances the skin's pH, or acidity, and fights bacteria. It also removes excess oil and dead skin cells which helps prevent clogged pores and reduce pore size. Apple cider vinegar needs to be diluted prior to applying it to the skin. Use 3 or 4 parts water and 1 part vinegar depending on skin sensitivity. For more stubborn acne or extremely oily skin, 2 parts water and 1 part vinegar can be used. Use a cotton ball to apply the diluted vinegar to your entire face. Rinse the solution off after about 10 minutes.

Egg White Mask

An egg white mask will reduce excess oil and tighten the skin, which minimizes pore size and prevents clogged pores and acne. Separate one egg white from the yolk into a bowl. Use a spoon or a wisk to break the egg white up a bit which will make it easier to apply to your skin. Cleanse your skin with a mild bar soap or your usual cleanser, and then use clean hands or cotton to apply the egg white over your entire face. The mask will dry and become very tight after about 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse the mask off with warm water, and reapply a few times a week or as desired.
