Overview

Acne is not considered a serious health issue, but it can be embarrassing. It is believed to be caused by a fluctuation in hormone levels which increase sebum production and cause the hair follicles to become blocked with oil and dead skin cells. These blockages can become infected, spread and leave scaring. Treatment should included opening the pores, washing your face no more than twice a day with a mild soap, and exfoliating gently.Use a lotion that contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid daily.

Step 1

Make a facial sauna by pouring the boiling water into a bowl, covering both your head and the bowl with a towel and creating a tent. Place your face no closer than 3 to 4 inches from the water and steam for 10 minutes to open up pores. Pat your skin dry gently with a towel.

Step 2

Wash your face with a mild soap and warm water. Use a soft washcloth to gently exfoliate dead skin cells by rubbing in a circular motion. Rinse your face off and pat dry thoroughly.

Step 3

Follow product instructions and apply a lotion or cream that contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid which will treat all types of acne blemishes. Avoid eye area and nasal membranes.
