As the skin ages, it can become loose, wrinkled and blotchy, making the complexion seem more tired and older than it actually is. Luckily, there are a few great skin treatments that can help the skin regain some of the tone and suppleness that has been lost from the normal aging process.

Facial Exercises

Facial exercises help to strengthen the muscles and ligaments under the skin, and can help lift the look of the face, when practiced over time. Certain facial exercises can help minimize wrinkling and sagging in targeted areas of the face, including around the eyes, jawline and nasal labial folds. The practice of exercising the face involves pressing the fingers in specific areas to prevent the skin from wrinkling while stretching and clenching the facial muscles underneath to effectively strengthen the face. Facial exercises can be carried out as many times per day as desired, with effects that are lasting and natural.

Facial Massage

Facial massage helps keep the skin deeply hydrated while unclogging lymph glands around the face that could be causing the skin to appear more sallow. Facial massage is an ancient treatment dating back thousands of years, and can be practiced once a day as an antiaging treatment. It is important when giving yourself a facial massage to only use oils that are non-comedogenic, or non-pore-clogging. Non-comedogenic oils include olive, castor and jojoba oil. The skin should be massaged with the chosen oil for three minutes, then proceeded with a steaming hot washcloth pressed into the skin. Once the washcloth cools, use it to wipe the oil away.

Vitamin C Compress

Vitamin C fights off free-radicals, which can cause the skin to wrinkle more easily, and helps increase skin-cell turnover; sloughing off dead skin cells while producing new skin cells underneath. There are many commercially produced facial creams that contain vitamin C, but these creams can often be costly and do not contain enough vitamin C to be useful in fighting off the signs of aging. One cost-effective method of delivering vitamin C to the skin is to apply a lemon juice compress. Soak cotton pads in concentrated lemon juice, then apply them to the skin for 15 minutes. After the time has passed, rinse the skin with clean water or allow it to air dry. You can apply a vitamin C compress up to three times daily.
