Overview

There is a common belief that eating a lot of fried foods can cause you to develop acne. However, this isn't the case. Eating too many greasy fried foods is much more likely to cause you to develop other problems such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer than it is to cause you to develop acne.

Fried Food and Your Skin

There are numerous myths surrounding acne, including that eating fried foods causes it. However, this is no more true than the myth that chocolate causes acne. Eating fried foods does not increase oil production in your skin in any way, according to the website AcneNet. The only way fried foods can make your skin greasy is if you touch the fried food, then touch your skin.

Acne Causes

Fried foods to do not cause acne. However, hormones do. This is why acne crops up so often during puberty and menopause. Hormones trigger too much oil production. This oil combines with dead skin cells and bacteria and clogs your pores, causing a blemish.

Foods to Help Acne

Even though there is no direct link between the foods you eat and your breakouts, a healthy diet is a good way to ensure your skin is healthy and reduce your acne risk factors. To eat a healthy diet, avoid fried foods and any other foods that are high in fat, cholesterol and sugar. Load up on vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean protein and plenty of water for a radiant complexion.

Exceptions

Though fried foods do not generally cause acne, if you have a food sensitivity or allergy to one of the ingredients in fried goodies, acne may be the result. If you suspect a particular food is causing your breakouts, remove it and then reintroduce it slowly to see if it has any affect.
