Foods That Trigger Prostatitis
When a man has prostatitis, his prostate gland is inflamed or infected. If you have prostatitis, you may notice you are urinating more frequently. You may experience burning or pain when you urinate and may feel as if you cannot empty your bladder completely. You could experience fever and chills or low back pain. According to Penn State University's Hershey Medical Center, if you are over 50, there is a 35 percent chance that you will suffer chronic prostatitis. In light of this, it makes sense to notice whether certain foods trigger your symptoms. To treat prostatitis, your doctor will probably prescribe rest, increased fluids and, if appropriate, medication.
Spicy Foods
Spicy foods, including salsa, hot peppers and chile peppers, may trigger chronic prostatitis according to New York University's Langone Medical Center. If you notice that spicy foods make your symptoms worse, you may wish to eliminate these foods from your diet.

Foods and beverages that contain alcohol may trigger prostatitis symptoms. Alcohol can also be dehydrating, which is contrary to most recommendations that you need increased fluids when you have prostatitis.
Citrus Juice
Citrus juice is very acidic and can be irritating to the urethra, says Penn State Hershey Medical Center. You may find that citrus juice causes symptoms while citrus fruits do not.
Tomatoes
Tomatoes are very acidic and may cause irritation. You may wish to avoid or limit foods containing tomatoes. You may also wish to avoid tomato juice if it causes symptoms.
Caffeine
Foods like chocolate contain caffeine, and a number of beverages, including coffee, soda and tea, contain caffeine. In addition to causing irritation, caffeine can also cause dehydration.
