The American Academy of Dermatology states that acne, also called acne vulgaris, affects approximately 40 to 50 million Americans every year. Acne formation is the result of four key players which include excess oil, bacteria, inflammation and clogged pores. Anybody can get acne, however it is most common in teenagers.

Grains

Grains contain B-vitamins, which are essential for healthy skin. Thiamine or vitamin B1 helps to promote healthy circulation in skill cells and acts as an antioxidant to help prevent acne. Pantothenic acid, or vitamin B5, is responsible for helping your body deal with stress, which may result in acne formation. Also, low amounts of other B vitamins in your body, like vitamin B3 and B6, may cause acne.

Soybeans

Soybeans are an excellent source of zinc, which can be used to help treat acne. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, taking a form of zinc in combination with a topical antibiotic erythromycin may be able to help eliminate acne. However, it is important to note that taking high doses of zinc can have toxic effects. Zinc treats acne by controlling the activity of your oil glands, as excess oil can lead to potential acne problems.

Carrots

Carrots contain vitamin A. Vitamin A is important for helping to reduce the production of sebum. This natural body-made oil may irritate the skin or contribute to clogged pores, which can cause acne. According to the Vitamins & Nutrition Center, vitamin A also helps to keep your skin firm.
