Overview

Trying to heal acne can be a real chore. It can involve using a variety of over-the-counter and prescription drugs in an attempt to clear up recurrent blemishes. However, these treatments are ineffective or too harsh for some. In some cases, home remedies are just what your skin needs to heal and be acne free once and for all.

Step 1

Apply tea tree oil to your acne blemishes. Use a 5 percent tea tree oil topical gel. This all-natural oil reduces inflammation and can reduce the amount of bacteria on the skin's surface, reducing the number of breakouts you experience over time.

Step 2

Take dietary supplements. Some people experience food sensitivities that can trigger acne breakouts, though for the most part, typically blamed offenders like greasy foods, chocolate and sugar have no effect on acne at all. To have a positive effect on acne, you may supplement with zinc, vitamin-A and L-carnitine to reduce your breakouts. Only take these supplements under the guidance of a doctor, however, as overdosing could cause serious side effects.

Step 3

Take the herb guggul. This herbal supplement reacts similarly to tetracycline in the body and can kill acne bacteria when taken consistently. Of course, you shouldn't take this herb if you are pregnant or nursing or have liver problems. Consult with your doctor prior to beginning a guggul regimen.

Step 4

Dab aloe vera gel on your acne blemishes. Aloe vera has antibacterial properties and can soothe acne inflammation. Just apply the gel on your blemishes and rub it in well. Use aloe vera twice a day in the morning and at night. At the very least, it will make your acne less red and irritated looking.
