1. It May be in the Foods You Eat

Eat the right foods to prevent zits, like plenty of fibers. Fibers are found in whole grain breads, beans, fruits and vegetables. Severely limit the junk food you eat. Greasy fried foods and fatty foods cause zits. Sugar can cause bad acne for some people that have low glucose tolerance. At least eliminate sugar in your diet long enough to see if it has an effect. Limit intake of caffeine commonly found in coffee, tea, chocolate and soda.

2. Improve Cleanliness to Get Rid of Zits

This may seam like a no-brainer, but often germs and dirt build-up come from places you wouldn't think about. They get in your pores causing blemishes. Launder sheets and pillow cases once a week. Wash your face twice a day with a mild cleanser, once in the morning and once before bed. Wash your hands a lot and avoid touching your face with them, which is often a habit. Hands transport grease and dirt. Wash things that you hold close to your face, like your cell phone, with a disinfectant.

3. Vitamins Aren't Just for the Old

Take a daily supplement, because lack of essential vitamins and minerals can take a toll on your complexion. First try a general vitamin such as Flintstones to see if you are lacking in several deficiencies. A regular supplement contains vitamins such as A, B-Complex, Folic Acid, B5, B6, C and E, which can all can cause acne if you don't get enough. If that doesn't work, try specific vitamins that work to remedy zits for some such as Acidophilus, Brewer's Yeast, Chromium, or Selenium.

4. Old Wives' Tales Might Have Some Truth

There are many folk remedies that have no scientific backing, but have been tried and true treatments for acne for centuries. Many include basic ingredients that you can find around the kitchen anytime. Most are natural too, so they won't hurt your skin even if they don't help. Dry out an oily face by wiping with a lemon slice once a day. Boil green beans and after cooling, use the water to wash your face three times a day. Use raw egg whites as a face mask by applying with fingers and leaving on for several hours or overnight. Wash your face twice a day with a sugar and water mixture. Apply cooked oatmeal to the skin as a face mask, leaving it on until it is dry before rinsing off with warm water.

5. Over-the-Counter Chemicals

There are many products out there claiming to be an easy solution. Some may work for one person, while others may not. Be open minded and willing to try a few before you find one that works. Remember that most expensive does not always mean best. Many people swear by Proactive Solutions, Clearisil and Noxema.
