Pimples are skin blemishes that can develop when the skin has pore blockages. Although acne or pimples commonly affect teenagers, people of all ages may also have this skin problem. Sometimes, a painful cyst may form when pimples become large and inflamed. In these cases, pimples may be difficult to treat and require prescribed medications. However, for mild to moderate pimple problems, certain face masks may be useful.

Tea Tree Oil Mask

Derived from melaleuca tree leaves, tea tree oil may have antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. According to MedlinePlus, tea tree oil also may reduce inflammation of lesions associated with acne vulgaris. However, more studies are required to evaluate tea tree oil's effectiveness in treating this skin problem. You can make a mask that may be beneficial in treating pimples or acne by combining 3 tsp. of clay powder, three drops tea tree oil and 6 tsp. of water in a plastic bowl and applying this paste to your face. Please note that topical application of tea tree oil may cause allergic reactions in some people. Before using homemade topical treatments of any kind, perform a skin patch test.

Turmeric Mask

In traditional Ayurvedic and Asian medicine, turmeric is purportedly useful for the treatment of many ailments and skin problems such as acne. To make a turmeric mask, you can combine 2 tbsp. of oatmeal flour, 11/2 tsp. of turmeric powder and enough water to form a yogurt-like paste in a bowl. Apply the mask to your face and wait at least 15 minutes before removing it with cool water. Applying turmeric to the skin may help with pimples that cause skin inflammations. Based on limited research findings, turmeric and its active compound curcumin may have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, according to the website MedlinePlus. However, more research is necessary to determine turmeric's true efficacy as a treatment for this or other conditions.

Neem Leaf Powder Mask

Made from various parts of the neem tree that is native to India and other Asian countries, neem-derived products can have different traditional uses. Neem contains many active constituents with medicinal properties that include anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antifungal effects, reports PubMed. Neem leaf powder may be beneficial for skin problems, including pimples or acne, suggests the website Natural Health Cure. To prepare a mask with neem leaf powder, mix 1 tbsp. of powder with enough water to form a thin paste. You can apply it to affected skin areas for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing it off with water.
