Effects of Tazorac on Acne

Acne is a common skin condition that causes the formation of blackheads, whiteheads and pimples. Acne is not a serious medical condition but it can nevertheless be disconcerting. In some cases acne leaves behind permanent scarring. There are several prescription oral medications and topical ointments available to treat acne. Tazarotene (brand name Tazorac) is available as a cream or gel. It should be applied to dry skin. Patients typically see improvement within two months. Tazorac may cause skin irritation.

Minimizes Outbreaks

Tazorac is a synthetic retinoid (vitamin A derivative) that works to clear and prevent acne by unclogging skin pores and keeping them free of bacteria. Tazorac may reduce the number and frequency of acne breakouts. For maximum effectiveness, Tazorac is often prescribed in conjunction with oral antibiotics such as doxycline, minocycline and tetracycline.

Skin Cells Effects

One of the main causes of ace is an abnormal shedding of dead skin cells that irritate the hair follicles of your skin. Each follicle is attached to sebaceous glands. These glands emit a lubricating substance called sebum to keep your skin moisturized. The irregular shedding of old skin cells prevents the secretion of sebum. Tazorac works to normalize the shedding process and prevent the plugging of the hair follicles.

Reduces Inflammation

Tazorac can help reduce inflammation that is associated with acne. Skin blemishes can become inflamed and irritating to the skin, especially in more severe cases when pustules and papules form. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, a papule is a small, solid lesion that sits above the surface of the skin. A pustule is a pus-filled lesion.
