When purchasing omega-3 supplements, it’s very important that you read the label. Make sure the manufacturer states that the product is free of cadmium, lead and mercury, according to the UMMC. These are trace minerals found in some fish that are harmful to humans.

Evening Primrose Oil

Evening primrose oil or just evening primrose is sold in gel-like capsules. Evening primrose is another essential supplement that can help dry skin because it contains fatty acids, such as omega-6 fatty acids and gamma-linolenic acid, according to MedlinePlus. Evening primrose also aids in conditions such as dermatitis and is approved to treat skin disorders in other countries outside the United States, according to MedlinePlus. Evening primrose may interact with other drugs such as blood thinners, arthritic drugs, blood pressure drugs, antidepressants and possibly seizure medications, according to MedlinePlus.


Biotin is also known as vitamin H and is part of the vitamin B group, according to the UMMC. Vitamin H is a water-soluble vitamin, so it’s necessary to replenish your body with it daily. Water-soluble vitamins are excreted in urine and are not stored within your body. Biotin helps your body metabolize fats, carbohydrates and amino acids. Amino acids are very important to your body because they are the building blocks of protein. Hair, skin and fingernails primarily consist of protein; that's why biotin is so important. Biotin is known to make your hair, nails and skin stronger. You can also purchase certain cosmetics containing biotin for your skin in addition to taking it as a supplement.
