With so many acne products promising to clear pores and eliminate blemishes, skin care can be confusing, stressful and expensive. As trite as it might sound, eating right does help your skin. Through a variety of healthy foods, we get the nutrients and vitamins we need, according to the Vitamin and Mineral Encyclopedia. However, taking vitamin and mineral supplements can help make up for inefficient diets. Plenty of vitamins and minerals are potent antioxidants that work to fight free radicals and clear out toxins. According to the Vitamins and Nutrition Center, a few antioxidants carry antibacterial properties and boost immunity, "both of which are important in keeping your pores clean of clogging toxins and in healing the damaged skin tissue." Vitamins/minerals that help clear pores and fight acne include vitamins A, B complex, C, E, chromium and zinc.

Vitamin C is an antioxidant that directly works on growth and repair of tissue while fighting infection. You can take up to 1,000 mg a few times a day since it's water-soluble, and vitamin C not only helps clear pores but also enhances immunity, says the Vitamins and Nutrition Center.

Herbal Remedies

Many natural formulas and herbs help clear pores and fight acne. According to Progressive Health, aloe gel and witch hazel work well as natural astringents and bacteria resisters; rosewater calms pain and inflammation; lavender also reduces inflammation; and calendula helps mend skin tissues and comes in a cream form, but it also works well in steam facials. Herbs that are ingested for healing and/or inflammation include echinacea and goldenseal.

According to AcneNet, keeping skin and pores clean and clear can help reduce new breakouts. Start a routine of washing your face at least twice a day. Avoid the following: harsh rubbing or scrubbing, which often leads to more breakouts; oily beauty products; popping of zits; rubbing alcohol and other harsh astringents; tanning; and putting fingers on the face, explains AcneNet.
