Clean & Clear is a line of over-the-counter acne products manufactured by Johnson & Johnson. Clean & Clear features several different acne washes designed for different skin types and problems. Make sure to read the labels and identify the active ingredients of any acne product, particularly if you have sensitive skin.

Clean & Clear Morning Burst contains soft beads to help exfoliate your skin and features a citrus scent, meant to energize you. The company's Oxygenating Fizzing Cleanser pumps out as a gel and fizzes up when you add water and lather to help clean your pores. The Deep Action Cream Cleanser creates a cooling sensation and works to remove makeup, dirt and oil. To remove stubborn cosmetics and waterproof makeup, Clean & Clear makes a Makeup Dissolving Foam Cleanser. Clean & Clear's Foaming Facial Cleanser is made for people with sensitive skin and is free of drying ingredients and scents.

Clean & Clear's acne washes are oil-free and noncomedogenic, meaning that they do not clog pores. Most of the washes are water-based and contain various chemicals and additives to enhance texture and color. Some of the face wash products contain specific scents, such as menthol and peppermint oil. Morning Burst contains vitamin C and ginseng extract for energizing aromatherapy. While most Clean & Clear washes do not contain acne medications, the Acne Control Cleanser that comes in the Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Control Kit contains benzoyl peroxide.

Cleansing daily with a gentle face wash helps remove dirt, sweat and bacteria from your face that can lead to clogged pores and breakouts. Harsh scrubs and chemicals can dry out your skin and actually make acne worse. The benzoyl peroxide in the Clean & Clear Acne Control Cleanser helps fight bacteria on your face to help clear breakouts and prevent new pimples from forming.

Choose a gentle cleanser free of alcohol and scents if you have particularly dry or sensitive skin. It is best to use a cleanser that does not contain acne medication if you plan to use other topical acne creams or gels. Layering products containing active acne-fighting ingredients can dry out your face and make your acne worse.

Do not use products containing benzoyl peroxide or fragrance oils on skin that is burned, cracked or cut. While most people tolerate benzoyl peroxide very well, seek medical attention if you develop severe itching, burning, swelling or redness after using it. Check with your doctor or dermatologist before using face washes that contain acne medications if you are using other oral or topical acne medications.
