Clean & Clear Acne Kit
Overview
Clean and Clear's Advantage Acne Control Kit is a three-part acne healing system consisting of cleanser, moisturizer and pimple-fighting spot treatment. The cleanser contains benzoyl peroxide as its primary ingredient, while the moisturizer and spot treatment contain salicylic acid. The Advantage Acne Control Kit is one of several three-part acne systems on the market today.
Causes of Acne
Acne is common in the teenage years and during pregnancy and menopause when hormone levels surge and fluctuate. According to Mayo Clinic, acne is common on the face, neck, back, shoulders and chest -- the parts of your body with the greatest number of oil-producing glands. Overproduction of skin oil combines with dirt, bacteria and cosmetics to clog your pores, leading to acne blackheads and whiteheads.
Advantage Acne Control Kit
The Clean and Clear Advantage system is sold as both individual products and as a kit containing the cleanser, moisturizer and salicylic acid spot treatment. The 5 percent benzoyl peroxide in the exfoliating cleanser helps to dry up pimples, while the salicylic acid in the moisturizer and spot treatment is a beta-hydroxy acid that also contains exfoliating properties. Some versions of the Advantage Acne Kit contain oil absorbing pads as a free gift.
Related Clean and Clear Products
Those who desire additional products in the Clean and Clear line to supplement the Advantage Kit have a wide variety of choices. Examples include shine control scrub, oil absorbing sheets, acne mark treatment and the blackhead eraser, a motorized hand-held device that scrubs your face with medicated pads. Clean and Clear makes a number of different cleansers with varying concentrations of the same active ingredients, benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid.
Competing Products
The Clean and Clear Advantage kit is one of several three-part acne treatment systems currently on the market. Two of the most widely advertised, which compete for shelf space with Clean and Clear products in pharmacies, are Neutrogena skinID and Proactiv. All three systems contain the same active ingredients and start at similar price points. The Proactive system consists of cleanser, toner and acne treatment lotion, while the skinID system contains different products for different users depending on the answers to an online survey.
Pricing and Availability
The Advantage kit retails for $19.99 on the Clean and Clear website as of 2010. The kit is also available at chain pharmacies and discount stores, making it widely accessible.
