Isotretinoin

Isotretinoin, also called Accutane, is a powerful antibiotic that is available for treating scarring acne or acne that is not responding to other treatments that you are using. Isotretinoin is usually used for the most severe forms of acne. According to the Mayo Clinic, it is very effective, but people who take it often should be monitored by a dermatologist. There is a possibility of side effects such as dry eyes, muscle aches and itching.

Benzoyl Peroxide

This product can be found in prescriptions or over-the-counter products. It is usually found in wash, cream and gel form. Benzoyl peroxide is an anti-bacterial agent, so it is very effective in fighting off bacteria on the face. According to Acne.org, Benzoyl peroxide works by killing P. acnes, the bacteria that is responsible for causing acne in the first place. Also, it works by drying up the skin in order to prevent acne breakouts from occurring. When applying Benzoyl peroxide, you should be careful, as it will bleach fabric and hair.

Adapalene

Adapalene, produced under the brand name Differin, is a topical product that is derived from vitamin A. It works by preventing hair follicles from being clogged, killing skin bacteria and promoting cell turnover. Adapalene slows down the process of accumulation skin cells, which cause acne.
