Although over-the-counter topical treatments, such as salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, can prove effective against pimples and zits, home remedies are available to clear up blemishes. If you are unable to clear up your complexion at home, you may speak to your doctor about more aggressive treatments, such as chemical peels, laser therapy and prescription topical vitamin A creams.

Aloe

According to the GrannyMed website, aloe vera soothes pimples and fights acne-causing bacteria on the surface of the skin. To use aloe vera, take an aloe leaf off the plant and remove the trunk. Cut a slit down the center of the leaf and allow the yellow fluid to drain out of it. Remove the rest of the skin to access the gel inside the plant. Put the gel directly on the pimples and zits without going near the eye area.

Popping Pimples

“The Doctors Book of Home Remedies” featured on the Mother Nature website states that pimples with yellow centers may be popped. Wash your hands and place your fingertips among the base of the pimple. Squeeze using a very gentle motion until the head pops. The yellow pus drains out of the pimple and allows it to heal more quickly. Cleanse the face after popping the pimple.

Nettle

The GrannyMed website suggests consuming a nettle tea to relieve inflammation from pimples and zits. To prepare a nettle tea, fill a teacup with a handful of leaves from a nettle plant. Pour boiling water over the leaves and allow to steep for approximately five minutes. Flavor with honey or lemon and consume. Check with your health care professional before using nettle.

Face Washing

Removing excess oil on the face is an effective way to treat pimples and zits at home. When the pores become clogged with oil and dead skin cells, a pimple or zit develops at the site of the pores. Wash the face with a mild cleansing agent that does not contain any oil. Avoid washing the face more than twice a day since it can irritate the skin. Control the amount of oil on the skin by keeping hair off the face.
