While there are many over-the-counter skin care products, many of these products can cause irritation for sensitive skin while coming with a high price tag. Fortunately, there are alternatives, including some natural Ayurvedic remedies that can improve your skin and help reduce the size of your pores. However, these remedies have not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration, and although they are natural, you should consult your doctor before trying them.

Lime Juice, Papaya and Cucumber

According to Vasant Lad, author of "The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies," a mixture of lime juice, papaya and cucumber can be applied to the skin as a mask to help reduce the size of your pores. To make this mixture, combine 1 tbsp. lime juice, ¼ cup papaya and ¼ peeled cucumber in a blender and puree until a consistent paste is formed. Apply a thick layer of the mixture to your skin and leave it on with a towel around your neck for 30 minutes. Rinse your skin with cool water and wash your face with a gentle soap before applying your regular moisturizer. This treatment can be repeated twice daily as long as it doesn't irritate your skin, and unused portions can be kept in the refrigerator in a container with a tight-fitting lid.

Hibiscus Essential Oil and Sesame Oil

Melanie A. Sachs, author of "Ayurvedic Beauty Care," writes that a mixture of hibiscus essential oil and sesame oil can be applied to the skin to help get rid of large pores. Combine ½ tsp. hibiscus essential oil with 4 tsp. sesame oil in a small bottle or container and shake vigorously to combine the ingredients. Pour a small amount of the mixture onto a clean cotton pad and dab the mixture onto the affected area. Leave the liquid on the skin for 30 minutes before rinsing with cool water and washing with a gentle cleanser. This treatment can be used once per day, and unused portions can be kept in a cool, dark place for up to one month if necessary.

Sea Salt and Buttermilk

According to Reenita Malholtra, author of "Ayurveda: A Holistic Approach To Health," a mixture of sea salt and buttermilk can be used as a facial scrub to help get rid of large pores on the skin. Combine 1 tbsp. ground sea salt with 2 tbsp. buttermilk and mix thoroughly to combine. Gently massage a small amount of the mixture onto the affected area and leave it on for 20 minutes before rinsing it off with cold water. Wash your skin with a gentle soap before patting your skin dry and applying your regular moisturizer. This treatment can be used daily as long as it doesn't irritate your skin. Unused portions can be kept in the refrigerator for two days.
