Many over-the-counter acne treatments leave something to be desired for many people, and prescription treatments are often expensive, abrasive or have potential side effects. However, there are some natural treatments for acne made specifically for people with dark complexions. These treatments have not been approved or tested by the FDA, so talk with your dermatologist before starting any new treatment.

Vitamin E Oil and Soybean Oil

According to Bill Gottlieb, author of "Alternative Cures: More than 1,000 of the Most Effective Natural Home Remedies," a mixture of vitamin E oil and soybean oil can help to clear up acne for those with dark skin. To make this mixture, combine 2 tsp. vitamin E oil with 4 tsp. soybean oil in a small container and stir to combine. Pour a small amount of the mixture onto a clean cotton pad and rub the soaked cotton on the affected area. Leave the mixture on the skin overnight without covering with material if possible. This treatment can be repeated daily unless it irritates your skin. Unused portions can be stored in a dark, cool place for one month for future treatments.

Tea Tree Oil, Neroli Essential Oil and Sesame Oil

According to Colleen Kaye Dodt, author of "The Essential Oils Book: Creating Personal Blends for Mind & Body," a mixture of tea tree oil, neroli essential oil and sesame oil can be used to help clear up acne on dark skin. To make this natural treatment, combine ½ tsp. tea tree oil, ½ tsp. neroli essential oil and 8 tsp. sesame oil in a clean glass bottle and shake or stir to combine. Pour a small amount of the mixture onto your clean fingertips and gently massage it into the affected area. Leave the oil on the skin for 20 to 30 minutes or until nearly dry. Rinse the skin with lukewarm water and wash with a mild cleanser before applying your regular facial moisturizer. This treatment can be repeated daily as long as it doesn't bother your skin. Unused portions can be stored in a medicine cabinet or any cool, dark place for two months.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil and Soybean Oil

According to Ann Worwood, author of "The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy," a mixture of eucalyptus essential oil and soybean oil can be applied to dark skin as a topical treatment for acne. To make and use this mixture, combine 1 tsp. eucalyptus essential oil with 5 tbsp. soybean oil in a small container and stir or shake vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds to combine. Gently massage a small amount of this oil onto the skin and leave it on for 20 minutes. Rinse the skin with lukewarm water and wash with a very gentle cleanser before applying a mild moisturizer. This treatment can be used twice every day (in the morning and evening) as long as it doesn't bother your skin. Unused portions can be stored for 30 days in a cool, dark place.
