Acne scars are a common scarring of the facial tissue that occurs after pimples or acne cysts have been popped. These scars may be superficial or permanent lesions on the surface of the skin. They vary in color, size, and shape. Generally the larger a cyst or pimple is, the deeper and more noticeable the scar. Scars may be left behind from popping a pimple or from having an extremely deep cyst. Blackheads and whiteheads also cause acne scars to form, but these will generally be much smaller.

There are a few main treatments that are available that are designed to remove acne scars. Micro-dermabrasion, chemical peels , and certain facial scrubs can help fade scars. Laser treatment is also available, but it costs quite a bit and requires many painful treatments. They work by removing small layers of the skin and helping the dead cells disappear. Luckily around 90% of acne scars are superficial and will fade within a year or two. Others may be permanent and stick around for much longer. Who really wants to wait 2 years for scars to heal?

Depending on the types of scars  you have and how many are present, you should take a special treatment plan to help heal the pesky scars. If you have minimal acne scarring then you will probably benefit from a scrub or a peel. Those that have deep scars will benefit from several microdermabrasion treatments. These are much more effective in removing redness and scar tissue that causes embarrassing facial deformities.

It is always important to maintain an acne care regimen while healing acne scars. New acne marks can appear and cause even more scarring on top of what already exists. This simply leads to a frustrating circle of scarring and fighting to fade those scars. Keep the skin surface moisturized and clean at all times, and remember to wear sun block. Protecting your skin from worsening is the best course of action while using acne scar fading treatments.
