Suffering from acne can be embarrassing and depressing, but even more so to find that you're left with acne scars once the lesions heal. Scar removal treatments are expensive and can be invasive. Before you secure a permanent fix, you can cover up your acne scars in the meantime with proper makeup techniques and learn how to take care of your skin to minimize the appearance of these pits and dips.

Moisturize

Use an oil-free moisturizer on your skin every morning and night after cleansing to keep your skin hydrated. Many acne treatments zap your skin of moisture and can leave acne scars looking flaky and more pitted than they actually are.

Moisturizing regularly softens the edges of scars and allows makeup to glide on more smoothly for better coverage.

Full Coverage Foundation

Women will want to use a full coverage foundation to minimize the appearance of their acne scars. Use an oil-free formula so as to not clog pores. When applying, use clean fingertips or a sponge.

Dab the makeup onto the center of the face, including down the nose, on the cheeks, chin and middle of the forehead. Then blend the foundation out toward your hairline and jawline, making sure to blend especially well in these areas.

Conceal Red Spots

Once your foundation is completely dry, you can apply a concealer. Using a small concealer brush, dab on the concealer directly onto discolored acne scars or marks. Let it sit for a minute or two before blending with a sponge.

Try to focus on the edges of the scar, blending the makeup into the foundation. You want the most coverage to be right on the scar.

Set Your Foundation

Once you're done concealing your scars, it's always a good idea to set your foundation with a loose powder. This prevents it from sliding around on your face and fading throughout the day. It will also keep oil breakthrough and shine to a minimum.

Just dust the powder over your face to give a matte finish. Carry blotting papers to soak up any excess oil that shows through during the day.
