Doryx is a delayed release antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections in the body. One infection treated with Doryx is acne. The medication works to treat the bumps and lesions caused by acne by slowing the growth of bacteria. Doryx is only available with a physician's prescription.

Availability and Dosage

Individuals treating acne with Doryx take a tablet form of the medication. The typical initial dose is 200mg followed by a maintenance dose of 100mg daily, for the prescribed duration.

Administration of Medication

The tablet can be taken whole with a glass of water. If the individual is unable to swallow the whole pill, it can be opened up and sprinkled in applesauce.

Precautions

Doryx can cause sensitivity to the sun. Sunscreen should be used to avoid overexposure to ultraviolet rays.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Doryx include diarrhea, loss of appetite and yeast infections in the vagina or mouth.

Contraindications

Doryx can cause harm to a developing baby so the medication should not be taken during pregnancy.
