About Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer About Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer About Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer

Manufacturer Johnson & Johnson recommends its Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer for people with normal-to-combination skin. This is one of five moisturizers Johnson & Johnson offers in the Clean & Clear line, each aimed at a particular skin type, such as dry, oily, combination or acne-prone. Widely available in drugstores and online, this product is made in the United States.

The Clean & Clear Dual-Action Moisturizer is an acne-fighting moisturizer intended to soften skin, moisturize dry spots and fight acne. The oil-free formula is designed for those prone to occasional acne. The overall goal is keeping your skin's pores and hair follicles clean and unclogged, resulting in a clear, acne-free complexion. The active ingredient is salicylic acid; those with allergies or nasal sensitivities should note the formula does contain a fragrance.

How Acne Starts

Your skin produces a natural lubricant called sebum. It forms beneath the skin surface and travels upward through your hair follicles. When those follicles are clogged with dead skin, bacteria or excess oil, the sebum is trapped. If it remains stuck in the follicle, it can produce a whitehead, blackhead or pimple.

How This Moisturizer Fights Acne

Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer's acne-fighting ingredient is .5% salicylic acid. This acid is used to unclog pores and treat acne-related redness or swelling. The formula uses such a small percentage because this acid can cause some irritation to skin on first use. If you notice redness, dry skin or other form of irritation, lengthen the time between usages of the product. Most skin types can adjust to this small amount of salicylic acid over time.

Recommended Usage

Clean & Clear recommends the Dual Action Moisturizer for normal/combination skin with occasional acne. They recommend using the moisturizer morning and night, alone or under makeup. If acne persists or worsens, you can still use this moisturizer; the Clean & Clear product family includes more aggressive cleansers aimed directly at clearing pimples and blackheads.

Complementary Products

Other Clean & Clear products the manufacturer also recommends for normal/combination skin with occasional acne include the Deep Action Cream Cleanser, used to remove makeup and oil, and the Deep Cleaning Astringent, which contains a full 2% of salicylic acid to fight acne. Spot-treatment gel for problem areas is also available.
